Some Thoughts:
I don’t know about you, but I have struggled with fear before. Eleanor, my best human friend, tells me it has been a lifelong battle for her. She says she has claimed some victories but also many losses. The good news is that in our Creator, we can find hope. The more we trust Him, the more we can face our fears and tamp down our anxieties,
And they come in verying forms and degrees. Everyone has felt fear. Sometimes, we fear something as simple and mostly harmless as public speaking. Sometimes, it’s the fear of rejection or failure that gets us and keeps us from stepping out in faith. And sometimes it’s something far more serious.
Fear is a proper emotion in many cases. God gave us the ability to feel fear to protect and warn us. Unfortunately, it can also control us. A healthy sense of fear helps us change course when we need to, whether physically or spiritually. However, a good thing can go rogue, as I am sure you’ve experienced many times, as have I!
Now, you may be thinking that you sometimes fear God has rejected you. No, friend. If you want Him, He will be there. He will come! When you draw near to Him, He draws near to you (James 4:8). Of course, He wants us to put down the things that get in the way, the “sin that so easily besets us” (Hebrews 12:1). But we just have to choose to do it. It can be difficult, but it’s worth the discipline it takes to lay down that burden, even if you have to lay down many, and even if you must lay down some burdens multiple times! Just don’t give up!
And He will be there smiling and waiting for you and helping you. You cannot see Him like you can humans, so you may doubt Him. But rest assured that He is real and true! As George MacDonald so wisely states, “seeing is not believing. It’s only seeing.” We “see through a glass, darkly” and only “know in part” as St. Paul writes. And he follows that with the hopeful, “then shall I know even as also I am known.”
So, be encouraged! Pray! Study! Trust! And most of all, love. :-)
