Greeting, kind Reader and welcome!

Christmas holidays are just around the corner, and Eleanor and I already sense the anticipation of the season of Advent! Eleanor says she feels we should always be observing Advent, not just on the four weeks before we celebrate the birth of the Messiah, and I heartily agree! Though, we both agree that is there is something to be said about the changing seasons and the various holidays that accompany each one.

Nevertheless, I say it’s never too early to begin thinking about that wonderful night two millennia ago when the Messiah was born in a wee and rustic stable. My uncle was there! Now, you may be thinking, “Nora Lamar, how is that even possible? You’re uncle can’t possibly be 2000 years old!” Well, you’re correct. I will explain all that in the days and months to come, so please visit us again. More will be revealed!

It’s just like our Lord and Messiah to arrive in such a humble place. That is just one of the many reasons you can trust Him. He wanted to feel and see and experience everything you and I do, though He didn’t have to.

So, as the beautiful Christmas carol says, “Let loving hearts enthrone Him!”

I will leave the first half of the lyrics to the whole carol below. This lovely song of praise to our King was penned by an Irish poet named Nahum Tate (1652 – 1715). Enjoy and be filled with hope!

What child is this, who, laid to rest,
On Mary’s lap is sleeping,
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing;
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
The babe, the son of Mary!

Why lies He in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear: for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce him through,
The Cross be borne for me, for you;
Hail, hail the Word Made Flesh,
The babe, the son of Mary!

So bring Him incense, gold, and myrrh;
Come, peasant, king, to own Him!
The King of Kings salvation brings;
Let loving hearts enthrone Him!
Raise, raise the song on high!
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy! joy! for Christ is born,
The babe, the son of Mary!
