George MacDonald "Growth and Resurrection" Tote Bag
Hello, Friend!
This tote bag is constructed with a light-weight, smooth, organic cotton. Featured on the bag is one of my favorite George MacDonald quotes. If you haven’t read my musings on this quote, then read on, Friend!
George MacDonald, as you probably know, maintained no ordinary relationship with our Lord. It was everything to him. He had much to say on walking with the King of the Universe, and as I read through some of his writings, I realize I could always go deeper. We often take Him for granted. We just know He will be there when we need Him. If you ever feel like you’ve hit a place of stagnation in your walk, maybe dip into some MacDonald.
I love the quote on this tote bag because it reminds me of what St. Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.”
Now, I believe this has layers of meaning, much like most scripture. First, as we all know Paul faced severe persecution and the threat of death hung over him daily. He submitted himself to that walk.
Also, he died to his own sinful flesh daily. His pride, his fear, his sinful desires—all were placed on the alter everyday. Though no one could see it, his spirit man grew strong and bold from this most severe of disciplines. Daily, Paul awoke. Daily his spirit, strengthened by Christ, pushed him forward. He “continually resurrected,” after each day of dying.
Whether you are in a dangerous mission field or simply going to the office everyday, you too must “die daily.” We do battle, even washing dishes sometimes! Raising children, taking care of families, and making ends meet can be challenging. And this world can bring many more unexpected challenges and outright opposition.
Our pride, anxiety, anger, and other strong emotions can take hold if we are caught off our guard. It is often in those moments that we too will be called on to “die to self.” But do not fear, you will “continually resurrect,” and find yourself stronger and wiser as you walk with the King of kings.
Be encouraged!
