Don’t you just love the book of James?! I find so much to chew on in that wonderful and wise epistle.
This passage is one of my particular favorites. It’s what true wisdom is all about. These qualities are truly nourishing to our souls and to the souls of those around us. And they are so very pleasing to the Father, our Creator. He loves it when we love. Indeed his Son told us to love one another:
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
When we are peaceable and gentle, we are loving. When we are humble and patient, we are loving. When we are reasonable and merciful, we are loving. Love may be associated with a feeling, but sometimes it is simply an act of our will, when our feelings fail us. When we love what is good, we love our Creator.
Let us pray everyday for more chances to love!
