As you may already know, one of my favorite quotes is by G.K. Chesterton. He writes, “I had always felt life first as a story: and if there is a story there is a story-teller.” Well, I know more about this story-teller. My favorite verse in the Bible speaks of him:
You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
-Psalm 16:11
The Creator is the great story-teller. However, he wants us to participate in this story and write with him. He will show us the path of life, each one of us, if we trust him. He will show us his ways, which are infintely more noble and beautiful than we could imagine on our own. We always want “writing advice” from other more successful writers, and that is okay, but don’t fail to ask the most creative person you know: He who created you, your imagination, your very soul. He not only created you and every atom around you, but He also made a way for you to defeat evil and aspire to what is true, beautiful, and good.
I love Psalm 16:11 because it speaks directly to our Creator’s creativity and his willingness to teach us how to be creative in our own lives and in the lives of those around us. Let Him show you “the path of life.”
