Alisdair the Raven Tartan Mug
Hi there!
It’s me, Nora Lamar the wee wren! Thank you for visiting my wee shop! You may be here because you love ravens or tartans or both! If you’d like to know more about Alisdair, keep reading! And thank you again!
My friend, Alisdair the Raven is from *Aberdeen Scotland, and this mug features his family’s tartan, an ancient raven clan that has been in Aberdeen since time immemorial! Since before Aberdeen was Aberdeen, anyway!
Incidentally, Alisdair gave me the idea for the name of my shop! He always calls me “wee Nora Lamar!”
Alisdair’s favorite time of year is Autumn. He loves his city during this time, especially, finding the chill wind bracing and the foggy scenery of smoking chimneys and ancient stone buildings romantic. That probably sounds strange to you, my dear Reader, but then, you have to remember that he is a raven. They are a mysterious race, indeed, my friend.
*George MacDonald, the enigmatic and brilliant nineteenth preacher is also from Aberdeen. Alisdair tells me his own grandfather knew the ol’ preacher and that he “oft sat ootside the window to hear the prrreacher weave wonderful tales o’ fantasy and heroism for his wee bairns!” Alisdair says he loved to hear these tales from his grandfather when he himself was “but a wee chook.”
If you’ve never read a George MacDonald book, you are in for a lovely time, but be patient if you have one written in the Scots language! There are some now available that have been translated into English. Alisdair says that MacDonald’s spirit comes through all the same, even without reading them in his own native tongue.
So, put the kettle on and find a good MacDonald book to read one of these chilly evenings!
God bless!
Nora Lamar
Eleanor and I want to thank St. Kilda Scotland https://stkildastore.com/ for the use of their wonderful tartan designer to create the various plaid designs featured in our shop!
