It’s me, Nora Lamar the Wee Wren!
If you haven’t met my friend Ddraig, sometimes referred to as Ddraig the Good, you may be wondering, and rightly so, why there is a dragon featured on a Bible verse bag! Well, if you don’t yet know about Ddraig, read on! You will find him quite charming in the best possible ways!
Ddraig is one of the few good dragons left in the world, but he understands that, sadly, his kind have worked hard to give dragons an evil reputation. He desired to be a part of my project because he believes in redemption. He wants to encourage all to seek the good path, unlike many of his ancestors. His favorite Bible verse is 2 Peter 3:9, which states, “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”
Ddraig is from ancient Wales (It wasn’t called Wales then, more on that later). Ddraig is pronounced a bit like “Thryg,” with a rolled r. However, his mother’s side is Scottish, so he has shared his lovely family tartan with me to feature in this mug and other items Eleanor and I have designed. We hope you enjoy the beautiful shades of green that harken to the ancient and enchanted forests, and good dragons like Ddraig!
When I painted Ddraig, I was inspired by the dragon paintings and sketches by J.R.R. Tolkien, one of which you can find on the cover of his translation of Beowulf.
