Cuppa 1 Peter 3:4 "Unfading Beauty" Mug

$19.00

If you are new to my website, you probably do not know that I am a bird, a wee wren! However, one of my best friends is a human lady named Eleanor. More on that later! I shared some thoughts on 1 Peter 3:4, so if you haven’t read them and would like to, keep reading! :-D

Since befriending humans, and especially ladies, I have noticed that there is often a heightened concern about physical appearance. Now, I understand wanting to be neat, presentable, and feminine (that last characteristic is a subject for another day). However, I have noticed this unhealthy trend to attain to a particular sort of “beauty” that can be difficult (or impossible) to attain without spending a great deal of money on products. These concoctions are expensive and often filled with chemicals that should not touch human (or animal) skin.

Friends, it may sound cliché, but the truth is that beauty is so much more than your physical appearance.

Eleanor and I have discussed this subject, and she tells me that most of her young years, she always felt she was less valued because she was not very beautiful in the eyes of the world. Today, she seeks a different type of beauty, the authentic kind that comes from within, thankfully. This does not mean she let herself go! It just means that the attempt to be beautiful in the worldly sense takes a backseat, or better yet, gets dropped off on the curb!

True beauty is accessible to everyone! You can cultivate true beauty within the soul that radiates out for all to see. Your eyes will light up. Your smile will cheer the hearts of those around you. The warmth of your kind and wise words will comfort. Your attentive ears will hear the concerns of others. Your beautiful hands will be ready to help. Your humble demeanor will be calming and inviting rather than intimidating. Others will feel seen and heard. Your husband will trust you from his heart, and you will work to bring him and your family good…all the days of your life (See Proverbs 31).

Now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with looking your best, as long as you are not feeling low because it’s not like what you are seeing on social media. Indeed, we should put on our best in many cases, such as work, school, and especially at worship. We honor the Lord with how we care for the gifts He has given us, and that includes our bodies, which are his temples. This includes our dress, manners, and presentation, which can also honor Him and be an expression of worship.

Modern humans have adopted the idea that dressing “down” or casually demonstrates humility. C.S. Lewis writes, “The modern habit of doing ceremonial things unceremonisouly is no proof of humility…” Lewis goes on to say that it can sometimes be quite the opposite. Humility, like beauty, comes from within. And often, as Lewis states, we are behaving more humbly when we dress up for certain occasions, rather than down. This sounds funny at first, doesn’t it? But just think about it! :-) Remember when Jesus told us that when we fast we should wash our faces and anoint ourselves and remain cheerful and presentable? Some of the pharisees would do the opposite, and our Lord exposed this behavior as a false humility. But I believe I have digressed a bit! Wrens do ramble on at times!

Back to the ladies, who possess a special relationship with beauty:

Caring for your God-given body is a very important expression of faith and gratitude, which requires discipline. Discipline is also beautiful and does beautiful things to our bodies and our souls!

**One of the most important ways to honor our bodies is by eating whole and healthy foods, mostly the ones that Adonai (The Lord) created and not a bunch of processed chemical foods. Using natural oils on your skin instead of expensive chemicals found in pretty jars may be a much better choice to improve the health of your natural God-given complexion. Getting out in the sunshine for a bit of exercise, such as gardening or hiking in the forest, is another excellent idea. Though too much sun can cause damage, humans (and birds) need sunshine for their mitochondria to be healthy. You also produce vitamin D naturally from sunshine, which helps prevent illness and depression! Getting morning and late afternoon sun is best and can even help regulate your circadian rhythm, which means you may sleep better as well. Good sleep helps you attain better health, and that will show in your hair, nails, and complexion (and my feathers!)

The Creator desired for you to enjoy his creation is such ways, not abusively, but naturally and in moderation. More than anything, spend time with Him. Learn of his ways. This will help you grow in wisdom, strength, patience, gentleness, and joy. You will be the most beautiful version of yourself when you are walking with Him!

Be blessed! Be beautiful!
